Online Casino Gaming Software Boss Media Blocks Canada
There is an unexpected move this week the online casino gaming software company Boss Media has pulled all of its top online casinos from Canadian players by blocking them from logging into any of their gaming establishments. Canadian players were surprised and puzzled by the unexpected move and left them wondering why.
Boss Media themselves have not issued a statement or announced publicly why they have decided to block Canadian players from their online gaming sites but one of their licensed programs “Bwin Interactive” who has been advising Canadian players that their patronage is not longer accepted.
The company did not elaborate on the possibility of re-entering the market, but with Canadian provinces changing their online gambling stances almost daily, there may not be any room for outside companies to move back into the market.
British Columbia was the first of the provinces to regulate online casino. The B.C. Lottery Corp. launched an online casino earlier this summer, although it was subsequently shut down due to a problem with the security software. The online casino has since re-opened and is running smoothly by all accounts.
Top online casino gambling site Bwin gave no mention in their announcement to Canadian players what specifically drove the company out of the market. Speculation is that Boss Media made the decision, and the online casinos that are powered by the software have gone along with the decision.
With regulation in place in B.C., other provinces have followed or soon will follow into the Internet gaming industry. Quebec and Ontario have already authorized online casinos, while Ottawa, Alberta, and other provinces are looking into doing the same.
The US is considered to be the largest online gambling market in the world, but little progress has been made in changing the current US laws. For 4 years, Representative Barney Frank has been claiming that he wants the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 overturned. To date, however, no bill has even reached the House or Senate floor that will overturn the UIGEA.
There was an email which was publish in casinoscamreports.com about Boss Media’s blocking all Canadian online casino players:
“We regret to inform you that because of recent announcements by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, Loto-Quebec and the Atlantic Lottery Corp. regarding the move into the online gaming industry with regulated online gaming provided by Canada, our download casino vendor has made the decision to block all Canadian players from using their software. Only operators licensed by Canadian authorities will be allowed to offer online gambling sites to the residents of Canada.”
The email goes on to say that with regret this decision was made and access to any of their download casinos will be terminated and blocked because of the ongoing legal issues.
Canada was a hot market for top online casinos based outside the country over the past several years. With regulated online gambling becoming prevalent, the profit margins were expected to shrink for many of these foreign-based casinos, and it may have become no longer worth the risk of prosecution by Canadian officials.
