Station Casinos Summoned UK-Based Online Casino Operators
Station Casinos is like many other land-based casino companies that are struggling in the current economy. Online gambling has also become a hindrance on land-based casinos, and that may be why Stations Casinos has decided to sue 2 online casino operators.
Station Casinos has filed a lawsuit against S.L. Enterprises and Ryan Murphy, a UK resident. The 2 accused operate the online casino sites vegasstationcasino.com and stationcasino.org, respectively. Station Casinos is contending that the online casino sites are using their brand name to send traffic to online casinos.
The lawsuit against S.L. Enterprises says the Web site, while using Station Casino trademarks, includes a statement that its gambling policies “pay out more than is required in Vegas.” Both sites are connected to top online casinos and even though customers maybe searching for the land based casino they may be being directed to the online casinos instead, therefore stealing any potential new customers they may have.
Like many land based casinos, which have been hit hard by economic times, the Station Casino is taking this extreme measure to fight back and ensure that any person trying to find out about their casino is not mistakenly being taken away to online casinos.
The company also contends that the 2 online casino sites are attracting customers through web searches and that the customers may be looking for Station Casinos. That will be a difficult thing to prove should the case actually make it to a trial.
Land-based casino companies have always been opponents of online gambling, fearing that the online casinos are pulling business from the casinos on land. In recent years, however, some of the biggest gaming operators have started to change their stance on online casino.
Harrah’s Entertainment has launched several online casinos in jurisdictions where online gambling is regulated. The company is possibly preparing for law changes in the US, where legislators are attempting to create a regulated system of online gambling.
Wynn Resorts is one company that remains against any regulations in the US for online gambling. Senator Harry Reid has opposed legislation regarding online gambling, but recently his office has acknowledged that the senator would be open to online poker regulations.
S.L. Enterprises and Ryan Murphy have yet to make any statements about the pending law suites against them by the Station Casino, but we will update once acknowledgment has been made by either side.
