Roulette Wheel is a famous and exciting game that can be found in the casino tables, as well as in online casinos worldwide. This game originated from France. The name "roulette" is the French word for a "small wheel". It can be played as online roulette games on the numerous selections of online casino games in the casino websites.

Roulette is a table game characterized by a small spinning wheel, with the sides printed with numbers from 1 to 36 on alternating black and red sections, and a zero printed on a green section. A double zero is also found on the opposing green section (180 degrees) from the single zero in another version.

There are two main versions of roulette games, one is the European (or French) roulette, and the other is the American roulette. The main difference among them is that the American roulette has the additional double zero (00) on the wheel.

How to Play Roulette Wheel

Playing roulette is simple. The objective is to guess in which of the sections on the spinning wheel the ball will land after the wheel stops spinning. There is no skills required in playing the game, and it is based commonly on luck and some basic strategies.

Before the wheel spins, players are first required to place their bets on the betting areas on top of the table. Once they had placed their bets, the croupier will spin the wheel and launch the small white ball. When the ball is about to land on one of the wheel slots, the croupier will say "no more bets". Players can no longer place or change their bets from that point.

When the wheel stops spinning and the ball lands on a specific slot on the roulette wheel, the croupier will then put a marker on the winning bets and will start collecting the losing bets. Only at this point the players can place their new bets.

Roulette Betting Options

There are many different betting options that a player can choose when playing the roulette wheel. These bets are divided into two main categories: Inside and Outside bets.

Inside Bets

The Inside Betting Area is an area on the roulette table where the players can select individual numbers from 1 to 36. There are still different ways of wagering on the inside bets, mostly depending on how the numbers are placed in the inside betting area grid.

Straight Up - this is a variation of inside bet where the players can wager directly on any one number. If the ball lands on the roulette wheel slot containing that number, the bet will be paid out 35:1. The bet will be lost if the ball lands on somewhere else.

Split Bet - this is a bet made on 2 adjoining numbers on the inside betting area, either horizontally or vertically. For example, 7 and 14 are adjacent in the roulette table, players will place their chip on the line dividing those numbers. If either one of those numbers come up as the winning number, the bet is paid 17:1, half of the Straight Up bet.

Street Bet - it is a bet made on the three numbers on a single horizontal line on the roulette inside betting area. Players will place their chip on the edge of the line of a number found on the end. For example, a bet made for the numbers 31, 32, and 33 requires a player to place his chip on the outside line of your side by the number 31. The bet has a payout of 11:1 if the ball lands on any of these chosen numbers.

Corner Bet - it is a bet made on four numbers at the same time. Players will need to place their chip on the intersection of the horizontal and vertical lines that separates four numbers. If the ball will land on any of the chosen numbers, the bet has a payout of 8:1.

Six Line Bet - it is a bet made on two adjoining Streets, or a total of six numbers. The chip must be placed on top of their corresponding intersection. The payout for this bet is 5:1.

Outside Bets

Players can also wager on a specific selection of numbers or one of the colors or if the numbers are even or odd. These bets are called the outside bets. The payouts for these types of bet are much smaller than the inside bets, however, the odds of winning is much better. There are several types of outside bets in roulette that the players can choose from.

1 to 18 - a bet on any of the first high eighteen numbers to win

19 to 36 - a bet on any of the last high eighteen numbers to win

Red or Black - a bet wagered on which color on the roulette wheel the ball will land, either on red or black. The payout for this bet is even money or 1:1

Even or Odd - a bet wagered that the ball will land on an even or an odd number. This bet also pays out 1:1

Dozen Bet - a bet made assuming the ball will land on either the first dozen numbers (1-12), second dozen numbers (13-24), or third dozen numbers (25-36). The payout for this bet is 2:1.

Column Bet - a bet made on all 12 numbers that are placed on any of the three vertical lines in the inside betting area. The payout for this bet is 2:1.

In the case of online roulette games in online casinos, the player will just have to select the specific area on the table where they should place their bet.
